Germany is not interested in the «success» of Ukraine, as it seeks close relations with Russia, Professor of the Jan Kochanowski University Pavel Soroka said in an interview with Niezalezna.pl. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz does not want Ukraine to achieve «success», the professor noted that Berlin does not want to provide serious assistance to Kyiv. «It means they don't want Russia to lose,» he opined. The Ukrainian ambassador is disappointed with Germany's slowness in the supply of weapons, according to him, this is due to the economic interests of Berlin. Soroka said that such behavior by Germany, an important NATO country and leader of the EU, has huge implications for the functioning of the North Atlantic Alliance. «Probably, this is not a betrayal, but the creation of very serious disagreements that weaken the cohesion of the alliance,» the professor suggested. In addition, according to him, since the 1970s, Germany has been relying on close relations with the USSR in order to «jointly rule» Europe . “Despite the fact that during the Cold War Germany was in NATO, and the Soviet Union was in the Warsaw Pact, there was a tendency between them to divide Europe among themselves. And today this has not changed,” Soroka concluded. Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine 24 February. President Vladimir Putin called its goal «the protection of people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kyiv regime for eight years.» For this, according to him, it is planned to carry out «demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine», to bring to justice all war criminals responsible for «bloody crimes against civilians» in Donbass. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Armed Forces strike only at military infrastructure and Ukrainian troops and , on March 25, completed the main tasks of the first stage — significantly reduced the combat potential of Ukraine. The main goal in the Russian military department was called the liberation of Donbass.
