The corresponding decree, signed on May 9, was published in the state press organ Gazzetta Ufficiale. According to the document, Russian statesmen were awarded the Order of the Star of Italy with the degree of Cavalier Grand Cross in May 2020. Their awards have been withdrawn for reasons of «unworthiness.» , lost the deputy head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Viktor Evtukhov and the head of VTB Andrey Kostin. As noted, Mattarella made this decision at the suggestion of the Italian Foreign Ministry and after consultations with the country's embassy in Moscow and the Council of the Order. The Order of the Star of Italy (Ordine della Stella d`Italia) is awarded to citizens of Italy living abroad and foreigners for special merits in the development of friendship and cooperation between Italy and other countries. The Knight Grand Cross is the highest class of the award.
