US President Joe Biden after signing the Lend-Lease Act for Ukraine at the White House in Washington. Archival photoMOSCOW, 27 May. Uncontrolled deliveries of American weapons to Ukraine could lead to terrorist attacks in the United States due to the actions of mercenaries, columnist Rajan Laad wrote in an article for American Thinker. According to him, there are 20,000 foreign fighters on Ukrainian territory who could not be properly verified before departure into the war zone. Some of them could go to Ukraine to steal modern weapons for further use or sell them on the black market at an inflated price, the publicist explained.
"If any of the "fighters" or the profiteers turn out to be a terrorist, it will turn out that the American government itself creates the opportunity for terrorist attacks on its own soil,” Laad suggested.
The author of the publication recalled that 22 members of Congress from the Republican Party questioned that the administration of President Joe Biden complies with the requirements of the Arms Export Control Act of 1976. It restricts the use of weapons exported by Washington to other countries.
"This question remains unanswered. <…> All Americans should be deeply concerned not only with the amount spent, but also with the potential negative consequences of this decision.", the observer concluded.
Washington and NATO allies continue to supply weapons to the country against the background of the Russian military special operation in Ukraine. Moscow has repeatedly warned that the supply of Western weapons only prolongs the conflict, and transport with them becomes a legitimate target. Last week, US President Joe Biden signed a bill to provide Kyiv with military, economic and humanitarian assistance. It also includes various allocations related in one way or another to the situation in Ukraine. Congress increased the amount to almost $40 billion from the $33 billion originally requested by the head of state.
