The Sejm of Poland adopted a law liquidating the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court, because of which the European Commission fined the republic 100 million euros, RIA Novosti correspondent reports. Earlier, the European Commission withheld 100 million euros from funds due to Poland due to Warsaw's refusal to comply with the decision of the European Court of Justice. Prior to this, the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg ordered Poland to pay one million euros per day in favor of the European Commission as a fine for not complying with an earlier court decision to terminate the activities of the disciplinary chamber for judges.Free travel for Ukrainians will be canceled in PolandOn Thursday evening, the Seimas adopted an amendment to the law «On the Supreme Court» initiated by President Andrzej Duda, which, among other things, will liquidate the disciplinary chamber of the Supreme Court. According to the amendments, judges who now make decisions in the disciplinary chamber should be able to move to another chamber or retire. The amendments also provide for a procedure for «checking the impartiality and independence of a judge.» 231 deputies voted for the adoption of the amendments, 208 voted against, and 13 abstained. Now the bill will go to the Senate. In July 2021, the EU Court of Justice demanded the immediate cessation of the disciplinary chamber of the Supreme Court of Poland. According to the EC, the activities of the Disciplinary Chamber, which can decide on the professional activities of judges, threaten their independence and impartiality. In turn, the Polish Constitutional Court did not consider the decision of the EU Court to suspend the work of the disciplinary chamber binding. From Russia
