US Treasury Allows US Companies to Transact with Venezuelan PDVSA


Petroleos de Venezuela oil storageWASHINGTON, May 27 The US Treasury has extended the authorization of transactions with the Venezuelan PDVSA for US companies until Dec. 1, 2022, a document released by the agency on Friday shows. The permit concerns operations «necessary to serve a limited range of operations and curtail work in Venezuela.» It concerns five American companies: Chevron Corporation, Halliburton, Schlumberger Limited, Baker Hughes Holdings LLC and Weatherford International. The previous license was valid until June of this year.Venezuela VP: U.S. approves reopening of oil workersEarlier in May, the U.S. administration announced that the U.S. Treasury Department issued a general license that allows oil company Chevron to start negotiations with the government of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on future activities in the country. It was emphasized that this easing does not yet imply entering into joint projects with the Venezuelan oil company PDVSA. On March 8, US President Joe Biden announced a ban on imports of Russian energy resources, gasoline prices in America rose to record highs. The head of the American administration connects the rise in prices with the events around Ukraine. According to some experts, the United States is making indulgences for oil companies in terms of working with Venezuela because of the energy crisis that they are experiencing due to sanctions against Russia.
