The European Commission has sent a proposal to the governments of the EU member states, providing for the postponement of the discussed ban on Russian oil supplies via the Druzhba pipeline, Bloomberg reported, citing sources.
"The European Union has proposed banning seaborne oil from Russia and postponing restrictions on imports through a key pipeline ("Friendship". — Note ed.) to satisfy Hungary's objections and negotiate a stalled package of sanctions" #34;,” the agency reports.
It is argued that such a proposal should solve the problems of other landlocked countries, including Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
Bloomberg said the West is ready to make concessions to PutinAccording to the agency, EU ambassadors will meet today to discuss a revised package of restrictive measures. Some EU members are in favor of reaching an agreement before the meeting of EU leaders on Monday. EU states have already imposed five packages of sanctions against Moscow because of a military special operation in Ukraine. As part of the upcoming sixth package, they are considering the possibility of abandoning Russian oil. Some countries of the union, in particular, Hungary, are blocking its adoption for fear of negative consequences for their own economy. Due to the introduction of restrictions against Russia, Western countries are faced with economic problems — rising energy prices and a surge in inflation. The measures mainly affected the financial sector and the supply of high-tech products, but calls to reduce dependence on Russian energy resources have become louder in Europe, and many brands have announced their withdrawal from the country. The Kremlin called these actions an economic war, but noted its readiness for such a development of events.
