Earlier, the Armenian Defense Ministry stated that conscript David Vardanyan was wounded on May 28 as a result of shelling from Azerbaijan. The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan later called this message of the Armenian side disinformation. On Sunday, the Armenian military department announced that the wounded soldier had died. «We strongly condemn the gross violation by the armed forces of Azerbaijan on May 28 of the ceasefire regime in the southeastern direction of the border, as a result of which a soldier of the Armenian Armed Forces, Private David Vardanyan, was killed,» the statement says. The Foreign Ministry noted that «this provocation was preceded by destructive, militant and maximalist statements by the President of Azerbaijan on May 27, which included encroachments on the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia.» The ministry called on the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, the CSTO, the EU and the entire international community to give and a targeted assessment of Azerbaijan's provocative actions and statements, aggressive rhetoric aimed at undermining efforts to establish peace in the South Caucasus.» «We call on the leadership of Azerbaijan to refrain from provocative actions, rhetoric, to fulfill the commitments made in the framework of tripartite statements and following the results of the Brussels meetings to establish security stability in the region,» the message says.
