MOSCOW, May 29. Undefeated American Gervonta Davis knocked out compatriot Rolando Romero in a duel for the world lightweight title according to the World Boxing Association (WBA). The fight, held in New York, ended with a knockout in the sixth round. The 27-year-old Davis now has 27 victories, 25 of which were won ahead of schedule. He defended his WBA world title. 26-year-old Romero lost for the first time in 15 professional fights in his career. Davis and Romero were supposed to meet in December, but the challenger was withdrawn from the fight due to allegations of sexual assault. In another fight of the evening, 39-year-old Cuban Erislandy Lara defended his WBA title middleweight in a fight against 37-year-old Irishman Gary O'Sullivan. The fight was stopped by the referee in the eighth round.
