Director Ekaterina Selenkina held an anti-war rally in the Moscow metro. She announced this on Instagram.
Today, on Children's Day, Selenkina went down into the subway with a mannequin of a bloodied baby and walked around the carriages for several hours with the words «Russian soldiers are killing children in Ukraine.»
“The war with Ukraine, unleashed by Russia, is largely ousted from the consciousness of Russians and public spaces in Moscow. Entering the subway with a baby in a bloody diaper, I try to confront random passers-by with the unbearable and unimaginable. Which, nevertheless, is happening — in cities under falling bombs. Russian military kill civilians in Ukraine. The Russian military is killing children. We must face the horror of war. No war,” wrote the director.

Selenkina told Mediazone that some Muscovites thanked and supported her, others shouted, insulted and said that “the metro is not a place for this and that they don’t want to see and hear it.” As a result, several people threatened to tell the police about Selenkina at one of the stations, and the director stopped the action. In total, she spent about an hour in the metro and drove more than 20 stations.
Selenkina released the film Detours in 2021, which won the Critics' Week award at the Venice Film Festival.
