“There was hope that they would be afraid”: Tarasova on the extension of sanctions from the ISU

MOSCOW, June 7, Vasily Bogdanov. Merited figure skating coach of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova said she hoped to lift the suspension of Russian athletes from international competitions at the Congress of the International Skating Union (ISU). The decision was made at the ISU Congress in Phuket (Thailand) on Tuesday. Earlier, the ISU banned Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in competitions under the auspices of the organization due to the situation in Ukraine. On April 25, the ISU confirmed this decision, noting that it will remain in effect until further notice. It also became known that the Russian stage of the Grand Prix series of the 2022/23 season was cancelled. «Honestly, there was hope that the ISU would still be afraid to make such a decision. How should a normal person treat this? What did our athletes do to they were not allowed to compete? They have nothing to do with political events in the world. You see, it is impossible not to answer the question why the Russian team cannot compete in tournaments. I think that we still need to continue to seek justice through legal instances. What «The percentage of our success still remains. And if not, then in the end we can calmly say to ourselves that we have done everything possible. There is still something to do,» Tarasova said.
