RUSADA will not offer to remove the substance from Valieva's sample from the banned list

MOSCOW, June 21, Andrey Simonenko. The Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) does not plans to propose to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to exclude the drug trimetazidine, found in the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, from the list of prohibited substances. Previously, a sports doctor, the head of the medical headquarters of the CSKA football club, Eduard Bezuglov, published an article where he said that trimetazidine was not actively used by athletes, even when it was allowed. According to him, there are no clinical studies that would confirm its athletic effectiveness. «There are no such plans,» Anna Kondakova, head of the science department at RUSADA, answered the question at a media seminar in response to a question whether RUSADA plans to propose to WADA to remove trimetazidine from the banned list. Trimetazidine was found in small quantities in the doping test of the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, which she passed in December 2021 at the Russian Championships. In February, Valieva won the gold medal of the Olympic Games in Beijing in the team tournament, but the day after the victory, it became known about the positive doping test of the Russian woman. RUSADA initially suspended Valieva from the competition, but after a while lifted the sanctions. CAS allowed her to the individual Olympic tournament. The investigation into the incident with a positive doping test of the figure skater continues, the IOC refused to hold the awards ceremony in the team tournament until it was over.
