MOSCOW, June 21 Biathlon World Championships from 2022/23 season will no longer be included in the overall World Cup standings, according to the official website of the International Biathlon Union (IBU). This decision was made following a meeting of the IBU Executive Committee in Salzburg. Previously, athletes were awarded the same points for their performance at the World Championships as for their performance in races at the World Cup. The World Cup will count toward the overall standings and the points system will be adjusted so that athletes who are forced to miss a race due to illness do not lose the opportunity to compete for the Crystal Globes. The IBU plans to adjust the World Cup and IBU Cup prize pools to at the first stage, until 2024, expand the number of recipients, and at the second stage, from 2024 to 2026, increase the amount of prize money for high results. Earlier, the IBU suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions under its auspices and suspended the membership of the RBU and the Belarusian Biathlon Federation (BFB) for background of the situation in Ukraine. These decisions were made in accordance with the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee.
