Agapitov was not elected to the leadership of the International Weightlifting Federation


MOSCOW, June 25 President of the Russian Weightlifting Federation (FTAR) Maxim Agapitov did not enter the governing bodies of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).

The organization's elective congress was held on Saturday in Tirana (Albania). Agapitov, who previously held a seat on the IWF executive committee, applied for the position of president, vice president, general secretary and member of the IWF executive committee, but withdrew his candidacy from the elections for the posts of president and general secretary, and lost in other voting. Agapitov has been a member of the IWF Executive Committee since 2010.

On Saturday, former IWF Secretary General Mohamed Jalul from Iraq was elected President of the organization, the post of Secretary General was taken by Peruvian José Carlos Quiñones González. Ursula Papandrea (USA), Peter Krol (Czech Republic), Pirros Dimas (Greece), Doris Marrero Travieso (Venezuela) and Hungarian Attila Tamas Adamfi (Hungary) were elected IWF Vice Presidents.

The IWF had previously decided to suspend candidates from Russia from participating in the elections. Russians Alexander Kishkin and Dmitry Chernogorov ran for various IWF committees. The FTAR filed an appeal against the ruling with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which was granted on Thursday. Russian candidates have been reinstated in their right to run for IWF governing bodies.
