MOSCOW, June 29 Russian chess players Alexandra Goryachkina and Alexandra Kosteniuk will play against each other in the quarterfinals of the World Championship Candidates Tournament, according to the website of the International Chess Federation (FIDE). The upcoming Candidates Tournament will be held in a new format: playoffs will be played among eight chess players, quarterfinals and semifinals will consist of four games (plus a possible tie-break) , final — out of six. The prize fund will be a record 250 thousand euros. In the quarterfinals, the chess players are divided into groups A and B. In group A, there will be matches Humpy Koneru (India) — Anna Muzychuk (Ukraine), Lei Tingjie (China) — Maria Muzychuk (Ukraine), in group B Goryachkina — Kosteniuk and Ekaterina Lagno (Russia) — Tan Zhongyi (China) matches will be played. Matches will take place over a two-week period in October-November. Group matches venues and exact dates will be determined at a later date. The final will take place in the first quarter of 2023. The winner of the tournament after that in the summer will play with the owner of the world chess crown, the Chinese Ju Wenjun.
