Russian swimmer wins 200m at Belarus Open Cup


MOSCOW, Jun 29Russian swimmer Anton Chupkov became the winner in the 200-meter breaststroke at the Open Cup of Belarus, which takes place in Brest. The two-time world champion swam the distance in 2 minutes 9.98 seconds. The second place was taken by Belarusian Ilya Shimanovich (2:11.54), the third place was taken by Russian Mikhail Dorinov (2:13.55). In the women's 200m breaststroke, the representative of Belarus Alina Zmushko (2.26.09) became the first, the Russian Irina Shvaeva was second (2.27.51), the third was her compatriot Anna Chernysheva (2.30.61). At a distance of 200 m butterfly, Russians Alexander Andreev (1:59.45) and Dmitry Novichkov (1:59.62) finished second and third respectively. Belarusian Ivan Shamshurin won gold (1:58.97). Representative of Russia Victoria Starostina became the winner in the 200-meter complex (2.15.37), her compatriot Anastasia Sorokina (2.15.77) became the silver medalist, Belarusian Oksana Bolshakova (2.22.58) won the bronze medal. In March, the International Swimming Federation (FINA) suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in competitions due to the situation in Ukraine.
