The Western world, including Germany, «swallows» the «aggressive heresy» on the part of the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk, said Senator Oleksiy Pushkov. Earlier, Melnyk, in an interview with a journalist from Germany, where Nazi propaganda is prohibited by law, glorified the accomplice of the Nazis Stepan Bandera as » freedom fighter.» At the same time, according to Melnyk, Bandera had no ties with Nazi Germany, and the mass killings of peaceful Poles by Ukrainian nationalists in Volhynia and Galicia during World War II are explained by the fact that on the other hand «there were many murders and atrocities.» According to the ambassador, «the Poles want to politicize this story».The Foreign Ministers of Poland and Ukraine reacted to the words of the ambassador to Germany about Bandera «The face of Ukrainian» diplomacy «in all its glory. According to German Foreign Ministry spokesman Christian Wagner, the agency took note of the Ukrainian ambassador's statements about Bandera, but considers them as a personal statement, not a position government of Ukraine. At the same time, the Israeli Embassy in Germany on its Twitter sharply criticized Melnik's statements, calling them «distortion of historical facts» and «an insult to those who were killed by Bandera and his people.» Miller repeatedly visited Bandera's grave in Munich, other places in Germany, connected with his personality, defiantly maintained relations with his relatives. The diplomat also made harsh statements about German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. In the spring, in response to Scholz's words that he did not intend to visit Kyiv in the near future after the refusal of a visit to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Melnyk called him «offended liver sausage», meaning an unfounded offense.
