Media: Britain wants to transfer frozen Russian assets to Ukraine

London. File photoMOSCOW, Jul 4British authorities are considering confiscating frozen Russian assets to transfer them to Ukraine, according to the Guardian, British Foreign Minister Liz Truss will speak at a conference in Switzerland to be held Monday.

"I support this concept. We are looking at it very carefully. Canadians have actually just passed a law. It's an issue that we're working on with the Home Office and the Treasury, but I certainly agree with the concept. We just need to sort out the details", the newspaper quotes the minister as saying.

According to Truss, this initiative «most likely» will require changes in legislation. Western countries have stepped up sanctions pressure on Moscow after the start of a military operation against denazification and demilitarization of Ukraine. Restrictive measures mainly affected the banking sector and high-tech products. Some countries have frozen Russian assets. Many companies have announced the termination of their activities in the country. There are no exact figures on confiscated funds yet. According to Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, about half — or about $300 billion — of the country's gold and foreign exchange reserves are frozen. Vladimir Putin said that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy of the West, and sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy.«Ukraine needs a victory».
