Media: WTA punished organizers of British tournaments for not allowing Russians

MOSCOW, Jul 4 Tennis Club (LTA) and the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) for preventing Russian and Belarusian tennis players from participating in tournaments in British Eastbourne, Nottingham and Birmingham, reports the Daily Mail. In April, due to the situation in Ukraine, the LTA banned tennis players from Russia and Belarus participate in tournaments under its own auspices, and AELTC in Wimbledon. LTA received a fine of 620 thousand pounds (more than 750 thousand dollars), AELTC was fined 207 thousand pounds (more than 250 thousand dollars). Both organizations, with the support of the British government, intend to appeal this decision. The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the WTA have decided not to award ranking points to Wimbledon tournament participants.
