The Meshchansky District Court of Moscow sentenced Alexei Gorinov, deputy of the Krasnoselsky district, to 7 years in a penal colony because of his speech about the war in Ukraine. This was reported by a Mediazona correspondent from the court.
He was also banned from holding public office for four years after his release.
Gorinov was found guilty of distributing «fakes» about the military at a meeting of the council of deputies using his official position and motivated by hatred (paragraphs «a», «b» and «e» of part 2 of article 207.3 of the Criminal Code).
The charges in the case were also brought against his colleague, the head of the district, Elena Kotenochkina. She left Russia, and she was arrested in absentia.
The case was opened because of a five-minute discussion by the deputies of the competition of children's drawings on March 15. Gorinov and Kotenochkina are accused of calling the war a war and not a special operation during this conversation, and also talking about the death of children in Ukraine. Gorinov, in addition, called Russia a «fascist state» and said that she wanted to seize the territory of Ukraine.
The Investigative Committee completed the investigation in five days. Gorinov has been in a pre-trial detention center since the end of April. He recalled that he spent the first night under arrest on the “cement floor” due to lack of space, and then he was transferred to a four-bed cell, where there were already six people.
