File photoROME, Jul 9Rescuers working at the site of a glacier collapse and an avalanche in the Italian Dolomites have discovered the remains of the last 11th victim of the disaster, local publication il Gazzettino writes. On Saturday, searches in the mountain range Marmolada on the border of the autonomous province of Trento and the Veneto region continued with the help of drones and ground teams. As Askanews notes, the identity of the last deceased was established thanks to DNA analysis: a total of nine Italians and two tourists from the Czech Republic became victims of the collapse. A glacier collapse in the Marmolada mountain range caused an avalanche of snow, stones and ice that covered the mountainside, along which groups of tourists climbed to the top on July 3. The avalanche, which reached a speed of 300 km/h, covered a distance of 500 meters. According to the president of the Veneto region, Luca Zaia, a «skyscraper of ice» came down from the mountain, the size of which is comparable to the area of two football fields. Abnormal weather conditions are said to be the cause of the tragedy: the day before, temperatures of +10 degrees were recorded in the Marmolada region.
