Roskomnadzor announced the introduction of a «coercive measure» against Wikipedia — search engines will have to inform users that the online encyclopedia violates Russian law. This is stated on the website of the regulator.
Roskomnadzor reports that the owner of «Wikipedia» — Wikimedia Foundation Inc. — was repeatedly brought to administrative responsibility for refusing to delete “illegal information” (part 2 of article 13.41 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). The claims of the department were caused, among other things, by the failure to remove articles about the war in Ukraine.
Earlier, Roskomnadzor several times demanded that Wikipedia remove articles about the war in Ukraine, including in English — «2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine» and «Rashism».
In April, the foundation supporting Wikipedia was fined five million rubles for not removing articles about the war in Ukraine from the encyclopedia.
