The Leninsky District Court of Ulyanovsk has appointed technologist of the Ulyanovsk Military Suvorov School Marina Kondyurina and Tatyana Suchkova, head of production at SPP Trading House, 10 and 11 months of restriction of freedom, respectively, in the case of infecting cadets parasitic disease echinococcosis. This is reported by the human rights project «Axiom».
Earlier, the prosecutor requested both defendants for two years in a general regime colony under the article on the provision of services that do not meet the requirements for the safety of life or health (paragraph «c» of part 2 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code ), however, it was reclassified to a softer one — about the violation of sanitary and epidemiological rules, which, through negligence, resulted in a massive illness or poisoning of people (236 of the Criminal Code).

The court forbade Kondyurina and Suchkova to change their place of residence, travel outside Ulyanovsk without the consent of the supervisory authority and ordered them to report to the inspection once a month.
According to the Investigative Committee, the pupils of the school became infected with echinococcus larvae in the fall of 2017 due to poorly washed “fruits, vegetables and herbs”. Cadet Ildar Nurtdinov told Novaya Gazeta that there were dirty tables and dishes in the dining room, and students often found hair and traces of dirt on fruit in the food.
Echinococcosis can be asymptomatic for years. The outbreak became known only at the beginning of 2019 after a planned fluorography at the school — parasitic cysts were then detected in one of the cadets. The number of victims subsequently rose to 74 people. The court found that the health of three cadets suffered serious harm, the rest — harm of moderate severity.
At a meeting with the parents of the cadets in 2019, the school management explained the infection by “mass contact” with a dog and “non-observance of personal hygiene rules «. At the same time, Izvestia, citing a source, claimed that the cadets were infected through nasvay. The epidemiologist involved by the Ministry of Defense denied Izvestia's version.
Sergey Kondrev, director of the SPP Trading House contractor, told Radio Liberty that their contract with the school ended shortly before the outbreak was discovered, in December 2018. After that, the Pishchevik company, which is part of the Concord group of companies Yevgeny Prigozhin, became responsible for food.
Representatives of the military prosecutor's office during the investigation called «deliberate actions of third parties to contaminate food» as one of the versions, but soon abandoned it.
