The Investigative Committee initiated a case against a 32-year-old resident of Izberbash about participation in an «extremist» organization (Part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code) because of his involvement in the Nurcular religious community. This was reported by the press service of the Department for Dagestan.
According to the investigation, in the period from 2015 to April 2017, the man participated in meetings «to study the ideological sources of an extremist organization» in order to «continue illegal activities» associations.
In 2008, the Supreme Court recognized the Nurcular organization as extremist, although its activities and existence have not been proven. Human rights activists of the SOVA Center and Memorial believe that the ban on Nurcular is unjustified, since the association never existed in Russia, and we are talking only about believers who have books by the Turkish theologian Said Nursi.
