A criminal case under Part 1 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code against Helga Pirogova was initiated on behalf of the head of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin. The department claims that other deputies from the Novosibirsk region appealed to the UK, who were outraged by Pirogova’s comment about “dead Russian servicemen” to the text of Mediazona.
Pirogov was elected to the city council of deputies in 2020 with the support of Alexei Navalny of the Smart Voting project. After the deputy was detained, her associates from the Novosibirsk 2020 Coalition said that she was four months pregnant.
