MOSCOW, Jul 31 Russian grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi moved up from seventh to third place in the rating of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), an updated version of which is published on the official website of the organization. Nepomniachtchi has 2792 points. The current world champion Norwegian Magnus Carlsen (2864) leads in the ranking, the Chinese Ding Liren is in second place (2808). Nepomniachtchi won the Candidates Tournament in Madrid in early July. He won the right to play again for the world chess crown with Carlsen, but the Norwegian refused the match. Now, in 2023, Nepomniachtchi must play a match for the world title with Ding Liren, who became second in the Candidates Tournament.
