Vladimir Vorontsov, creator of the Police Ombudsman public page, was sentenced to five years in prison

The Lyublinsky District Court of Moscow sentenced Vladimir Vorontsov, the founder of the Ombudsman of the Police public, to five years in a penal colony. The lawyer Fyodor Aksenenko informed Mediazona about this.

The court also stripped Vorontsov of the rank of police major and forbade him to maintain pages on the Internet for ten years.

Former Center E operative Vladimir Vorontsov served in the police for 13 years and quit in 2017 shortly after the launch of the Police Ombudsman community on VKontakte. They posted police requests for help and stories about incidents in the service.

In May 2020, special forces broke into Vorontsov through the windows, climbing down the ropes from the roof, while other officers sawed the door for him. After that, the former policeman was arrested. Thus, taking into account the time in the pre-trial detention center, according to the “one and a half day” rule, Vorontsov has about a year and a half left to serve, lawyer Aksenenko noted.

The prosecutor's office requested six years in prison for him. Vorontsov was found guilty of three counts of distributing pornography (points “a”, “b” of part 3 of Article 242 of the Criminal Code), insulting a representative of the authorities (Article 319 of the Criminal Code) and extortion (Article 163 of the Criminal Code).

According to the investigation, Vorontsov extorted 300 thousand rubles from a Moscow police officer «for not distributing his intimate photos.» According to the Investigative Committee, he also blackmailed a person with similar photographs in 2018 and a police officer in 2020.

In addition, the investigation believes that Vorontsov published in his group “insults against current employees of the internal affairs bodies and materials of knowingly false information discrediting the honor and dignity of one of the lawyers of the Moscow Region.”

Last week, the Tverskoy District Court of Moscow sent Vasily Fedorov, Yevgeny Moiseev and Irina Andina, allies of Vorontsov, to jail. They are accused of deliberately false denunciation with the artificial creation of evidence for the prosecution (Part 3 of Article 306 of the Criminal Code) and organization of this crime (Part 3 of Article 33 of the Criminal Code). Previously, they tried to prove that there were groundless accusations in the case of the public administrator by inventing another episode of extortion.
