During the debate in the Khimki city court, the prosecutor requested for the American basketball player Brittney Griner 9.5 years in a penal colony and a fine in the case of drug smuggling. This is reported by the correspondent of «Mediazona».

Under the article on drug smuggling in a significant amount (paragraph «c» of part 2 of article 229.1 of the Criminal Code), the prosecutor's office requested 8 years in a penal colony and a fine of 1 million rubles. Under the article on possession of drugs (Part 1 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code) — 2 years in prison. When adding up the terms, the state prosecution demands 9.5 years in prison for the basketball player and a fine of 1 million rubles.

Two-time Olympic champion, basketball player of the Yekaterinburg UMMC and the US national team Brittney Griner was detained on February 17 at Sheremetyevo Airport, where she flew from New York.

Cartridges for vaping with hash oil with a total weight of 0.702 g were found in the athlete’s hand luggage. Greiner was accused of storing and smuggling drugs in a significant amount (part 1 of article 228 and clause “c” of part 2 of article 229.1 of the Criminal Code) and sent to a pre-trial detention center near Moscow. At the trial, the American woman said that she used the hash oil she found with the permission of the doctors, but was not going to take it with her to Russia. At the same time, the athlete pleaded guilty.

The beginning of negotiations on the exchange of Greiner for a Russian Viktor Bout convicted in the United States for 25 years in the arms trade case became known in May. The list for the exchange expanded: the United States proposed to include Paul Whelan, sentenced to 16 years in the espionage case, and Russia, Vadim Krasikov, sentenced to life in Germany in the case of the murder of Chechen field commander Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, and Vladislav Klyushin, the creator of the Kremlin’s media monitoring system.
