
MOSCOW, Aug 6 Former UFC heavyweight champion weight American Kane Velasquez on Friday pleaded not guilty to attempted murder in a Santa Clara County court (USA, California), according to ESPN. Velasquez was arrested on February 28 after the shooting incident. He pursued the car of 43-year-old Harry Gularte, accused of molesting a relative of Velasquez, rammed the car and fired several shots, injuring Gularte's stepfather. The San Jose Police Department (USA) has charged a 39-year-old ex-MMA fighter with attempted murder. Velazquez was placed in the Santa Clara County Main Jail and denied bail three times. As the athlete's lawyer Mark Geragos told ESPN, a pre-trial hearing in the case is scheduled for September 26, the defense expects to hear testimony from witnesses. According to him, if the case is not dismissed at this stage, it will go to court, which could begin before the end of the year. Velasquez last fought in February 2019. After that, he participated in WWE wrestling fights. Velasquez was a two-time UFC heavyweight champion.
