MOSCOW, 11 Aug. The Bureau of the Executive Committee of the Russian Football Union (RFU) has approved the format for holding the Russian Cup season 2022/23 using the double elimination system, according to the official website of the organization. The meeting of the Bureau of the RFU Executive Committee was held on Thursday. Also, the regulations of the Russian Cup of the current season and the structure of the competition calendar were approved.
"Today, the bureau of the executive committee of the Russian Football Union voted for the new regulations of the Russian Cup, which will now be held in a fundamentally different format. The new structure of the tournament also implies new opportunities for generating income", — said the acting Secretary General of the RFU Maxim Mitrofanov, whose words are given in the official Telegram channel of the RFU.
The functionary also added that the structure will be announced in the near future title sponsorship and broadcast of the tournament in the upcoming seasons. The double elimination format is a tournament system with elimination after two defeats, which is used in eSports.
