Downpour death toll rises in South Korea

File photoSEUL, Aug 12 The death toll from this week's rainstorms in South Korea has risen to 13, with the fate of another six still unknown, Yonhap News Agency reported, citing local authorities. Previously, 11 were reported dead. Seoul received a total of 525 millimeters of rain from Monday to Wednesday morning, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). A total of 2,676 houses and buildings were flooded in the metropolitan area and nearby provinces, most of them in Seoul, and 4,807 people across the country were temporarily evacuated. Another missing person was found, according to the agency, raising the death toll to 13. Six more citizens remain missing. 18 people were injured. Nearly 6,300 people were evacuated or fled their homes. As of Thursday evening, the KMA had lifted the rain warning for most parts of the country. The weather is clear in Seoul now.
