An activist who has been living in Finland for two years was fined 20,000 rubles because of an anti-war rally in St. Petersburg

The Primorsky District Court of St. Petersburg fined the former postman and activist Pyotr Trofimov, who had not been to Russia for two years, because of the February 27 anti-war rally. This is reported by the human rights project «The First Department».

Judge Lyubov Suvorova found Trofimov guilty under part 2 of Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (organizing or holding a public event without filing a notification).

On her page Trofimov published a post on VKontakte with the words: “27.02 say no to war at 16:00 on the main square of your city.” The “first department” indicates that the Petersburger did not organize the action and did not participate in it, but only shared information.

Trofimov himself has been living in the Finnish city of Turku since 2020, where he came to receive political asylum.

The lawyers of the “First Department”, who defended the activist, said that on February 27, anti-war actions did take place in some cities, but no one went out to Palace Square in St. Petersburg that day — the rally was held on Nevsky Prospect, it was spring movement. The decision to fine Trofimov is going to be appealed.
