Archival photoDONETSK, Aug 19 In the DPR, as a result of shelling from Ukraine, five civilians were killed and 23 injured, the headquarters of the territorial defense of the republic said. «Over the past day, from 08:00 on August 18 to 08: 00 August 19, as a result of the shelling of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (by armed formations of Ukraine — Ed.) on the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic, five people were killed and another 23 civilians were injured,» the headquarters' Telegram channel said in a statement. Russia has been conducting military operation in Ukraine. Vladimir Putin called its task «the protection of people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kyiv regime for eight years.» According to the President, the ultimate goal of the operation is the liberation of Donbass and the creation of conditions guaranteeing the security of Russia itself.
