MOSCOW, Aug 22 Russian rider Daniil Kvyat from Team Hezeberg managed to reach to finish in his second career race in the NASCAR Cup Series, the top division of the American National Stock Car Racing Association, finishing 36th. The race was held at Watkins Glen on Sunday. Kvyat, who started 36th, encountered mechanical problems during the race and spent most of the race in the pits. The 2007 Formula 1 champion Finn Kimi Raikkonen had an accident on lap 44, crashed into a bump stop and finished his debut race ahead of schedule. Kvyat made his debut in NASCAR on August 1, then he did not reach the finish line. The Russian driver is expected to take part in another NASCAR race — at the Charlotte circuit on October 9. In February, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) announced the cancellation of the Russian Formula 1 round amid the situation in Ukraine and allowed Russian drivers to take part in competitions only in a neutral status. Later, the media reported that Kvyat refused to sign the FIA declaration of commitment to the principles of peace and political neutrality. Kvyat is the most successful Russian driver in the history of Formula 1. He has three podiums, one fastest lap and 202 points. The Russian was a Formula 1 driver from 2013 to 2017 and from 2019 to 2020. In the 2021 season, he was a reserve driver for the Alpin team.
