MOSCOW, Aug 24 Swedish striker of the National Hockey League (NHL) club» Washington Capitals» Niklas Backstrom said he had agreed not to discuss events in Ukraine with teammate Alexander Ovechkin. Earlier, agent Dan Milstein said that Russian hockey players are facing harassment and discrimination in the United States due to the situation in Ukraine. Later, Ovechkin told reporters that he did not feel Russophobia abroad. “Ovi and I decided that we would not talk about politics and what was happening in Ukraine. It’s the same in the locker room, no one talks about it,” Bekstrom was quoted by Iltalehti with reference to Expressen. Ovechkin is 36 years old, he is a graduate of the Moscow Dynamo, in which he won the Gagarin Cup in 2013. In 2018, he won the Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals. The Russian, with 780 goals, is the third-best scorer in NHL history behind Gordie Howe (801) and Wayne Gretzky (894).
