MOSCOW, Aug 29 The International Chess Federation (FIDE) did not include the Chess Federation Russia (FSR) is among the federations that have the right to nominate one candidate each for the Men's and Women's World Cup 2023, according to the FIDE website. These national federations are selected by the average rating of their players. They may nominate one player to the World Cup in addition to players who have already qualified for the tournament through other means. The list for participation in the men's World Cup included 71 countries. For female participants in the World Cup, 36 countries can nominate. The Belarusian Chess Federation is also missing from these lists. The World Cup will take place in the second half of 2023. The last World Cup was held in 2021 in Sochi. Russian Alexandra Kosteniuk became the winner of the women's competition. In the men's tournament, the representative of Russia Sergey Karjakin lost in the final to the Pole Jan-Krzysztof Dude. Earlier, due to the situation in Ukraine, FIDE postponed the World Olympiad — 2022 from Moscow and suspended the teams of Russia and Belarus from participating in tournaments under its auspices until further notice. In individual tournaments, the organization allowed players to compete exclusively under the FIDE flag.
