During the discussion of the jury's verdict in the Moscow Regional Court, the state prosecution requested 13 years in a general regime colony for Kaliningrad doctors Elena Belaya and Elina Sushkevich. This was reported to Interfax in court.
The prosecutor also asks the court to deprive them of the opportunity to hold medical positions for a period of three years.
Survival criterion. What is the basis of the case of Kaliningrad doctors accused of killing a baby
On August 24, a jury in the Moscow Regional Court issued a guilty verdict to a neonatologist from the Kaliningrad Perinatal Center, Elina Sushkevich, and the head physician of the Kaliningrad maternity hospital No. 4, Elena Belaya. They are accused of organizing the murder of a newborn (part 3 of article 33, clause «c» of part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code).
The doctors' case was first considered in Kaliningrad, then Belaya and Sushkevich were acquitted by the jury, but later this decision was canceled. According to the court, the defense through the media “discredited the prosecution”, and the information about the defendants on the Internet “caused pity” among the jury.
At the request of Deputy Prosecutor General Igor Tkachev, the trial was transferred to a Moscow Region court. Due to the fact that the doctors did not have registration there, both were sent to the Moscow SIZO-6 «Pechatniki».
Doctors' case. How the Kaliningrad doctors accused of killing a baby were tried
Elina Sushkevich's lawyer Kamil Babasov told Kommersant that the prosecutor's office did not present new evidence at the new trial in the Moscow region. At the same time, according to him, “the judge did not accept a single petition of the defense, including a speech before the jury of neonatologists and a toxicologist.”
The Investigative Committee accuses them of the fact that Belaya in November 2018 persuaded Sushkevich administer a lethal dose of magnesium sulfate to a premature infant with an extremely low body weight, as she feared a deterioration in the statistics of the maternity hospital.
Sushkevich said that the introduction of adrenaline and direct heart massage did not work, and the baby, who was in serious condition, died .
