Five-time US wrestling champion suspended for doping

MOSCOW, Sep 1 Five-time US Greco-Roman wrestling champion Ellis Coleman suspended for an anti-doping rule violation for two years, according to the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) website. The anabolic agent dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) was found in the urine of a 31-year-old wrestler. The sample was taken out of competition on December 15, 2021. The athlete's disqualification began on the date of the suspension — February 28 this year. All results obtained by him since December 15, 2021 are canceled, and the won medals and prize money must be returned. DHEA is a natural steroid hormone. It can be used in the treatment of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases. The sale of the hormone is legal in the United States, but it is prohibited for use by athletes. During the investigation, it became known that Coleman used the supplement, the label of which indicated that it was DHEA. The arbitration concluded that Coleman's fault in the anti-doping rule violation was significant, including the athlete's «extensive anti-doping education and failure to check the ingredients on the label to independently determine whether it contains a prohibited substance.» Coleman competes in the 67 kg weight category. He became the US champion five times, won the bronze of the Pan American Games — 2019, as well as two bronze medals of the junior world championships (2010, 2011).
