MOSCOW, Aug 31 Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev made very different, difficult decisions during dramatic periods history of Russia and laid the foundation for global changes in the world, said Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev. The first and only president of the USSR Gorbachev died at the age of 92 on Tuesday evening after a serious and prolonged illness. Medvedev, as reported in the secretariat of the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, sent a telegram of condolences to his colleagues, relatives and friends.

Medvedev noted that Gorbachev's assessments and recommendations, based on rich knowledge and experience, were relevant in the new Russia as well. «He took an active part in the life of our state, carried out significant humanitarian, educational and charitable projects.
