Poland invites Germany to talks on reparations by diplomatic note

Warsaw, Poland. File photoWARSAW, Sep 3 Poland will invite Germany with a diplomatic note to negotiate reparations for damage caused during World War II, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said. Earlier, the Polish authorities demanded that Germany 6.2 trillion zloty (about 1.3 trillion dollars) as reparations for the damage of World War II. «We will send a diplomatic note to Germany and challenge it (Germany — ed.) to the negotiation process. We will achieve this in all possible forums, on all possible ways,» Morawiecki's Office of the Prime Minister quotes as saying. He demanded that Germany pay reparations to Poland for the final reconciliation between the peoples of the two countries. “For the Polish-German reconciliation to be exemplary, we need compensation, because without it there will always be a huge sense of injustice,” Morawiecki said. In Poland, several years ago, the issue of Germany paying reparations for damage during World War II was raised. The German government has repeatedly stated that they do not intend to comply with Warsaw's demands: in Berlin they believe that they have already paid fairly large reparations, and there is no reason to doubt Poland's refusal of reparations in 1953.«Return our lands». The Germans offered the Poles to solve the issue of reparations
