File photoROME, Sep 6Italian oil and gas group Eni will double its purchases of natural gas from Algeria by 2024 to 18 billion cubic meters a year, natural resources company CEO Guido Brusco said during a gas conference in Milan. «Of the 9 billion cubic meters of additional volume, 6 billion cubic meters will be delivered to Italy during the next winter season, and the rest will come through a gradual increase during 2023,» said Brusco, quoted by finanza.com.
Italy plans to reduce gas consumption by five billion cubic meters from RF. Its deliveries reached 29-30 billion cubic meters per year with a total consumption of 76 billion. At the initiative of Prime Minister Mario Draghi, concrete steps were taken and new agreements were concluded to diversify energy sources and, in particular, increase gas supplies from Algeria, Angola, Azerbaijan, the Republic of the Congo and a number of other countries. Minister for Ecological Transition Roberto Chingolani stated that the share of Russian gas supplies was reduced to 18% from 40%. Earlier, he said that, taking into account savings in consumption and obtaining new energy resources, Italy will be completely independent of gas supplies from the Russian Federation in the second half of 2024.
