File photoWASHINGTON, Sep 8U.S. President Joe Biden has extended a national emergency over threat of interference in U.S. elections, according to his letter to Congressional leaders released Wednesday. «I sent to the federal registry to publish a notice that the state of emergency due to the threat of foreign interference in the elections or the erosion of public confidence in the United States, imposed on September 12, 2018, will remain in effect after September 12, 2022,» the president said in his letter. «Although there is currently no evidence that foreign forces are seeking to change the voting results of any American elections, foreign forces have historically sought to take advantage of America's free and open political system,» Biden wrote.
