File photoTOKYO, Sep 10The bodies of three dead in the late April wreck in northern Japan of the KAZU-1 vessel were delivered from Russia to the port of Otaru in Hokkaido, the Kyodo news agency reported. After identification with DNA samples and the corresponding procedure, an agreement was reached on their transfer to Japan. Earlier this week, a Japanese maritime security patrol vessel left for the port of Korsakov, where the handover took place.
Another body was found on Sakhalin, presumably from a Japanese vessel. The excursion vessel KAZU 1 (displacement 19 tons) gave a distress call on April 23, and then stopped communicating off the western coast of the northern island of Hokkaido. There were 26 people on the cruise ship, including two children. The bodies of 14 people were found and identified, 12 people are still missing. A few days after the accident, the ship was found at a depth of 120 meters in the area where the distress signal came from. Then three bodies were found near Kunashir and Sakhalin. DNA analysis showed that this is a crew member and two passengers — a man and a woman from the sunken ship. Until the bodies are identified in Japan, they continue to be considered missing. Presumably, bad weather, as well as numerous safety violations by the management company, could have caused the ship's accident. The ship went to sea with a broken radio and a faulty satellite connection. Most of the way KAZU 1 used cellular communication, which is unstable in sea conditions. The fact that the ship was in distress was reported only from the cell phone of one of the passengers. The vessel has been resurfaced and police and maritime security are investigating.
