President of the European SAMBO Federation Sergey Eliseev said that the leadership of the organization regrets the refusal of the Ukrainian team to take part in the upcoming European Championship, which will be held in Serbia. Earlier, it became known that the Sambo Federation of Ukraine refused to travel to the European Championship due to the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the tournament. In March, the International SAMBO Federation allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to take part in international competitions in a neutral status, despite the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee not to allow athletes from these countries. «We regret that Ukrainian athletes will not take part in the European Championship, because for It is very important for us that all athletes be able to compete regardless of political situations. And we consider it wrong to mix sports with politics,» Eliseev said.
