South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. File photoWASHINGTON, Sep 17 South African President Cyril Ramaphosa spoke at a meeting with his American counterpart Joe Biden about the unfair punishment by the United States for ties with Russia, the leader of the South African Republic himself told reporters.
" ;We have flagged this as a concern. If the bill (“On Counteracting Malicious Russian Actions.” — Note ed.) is passed, it will marginalize Africa, because it will give the impression that Africa is being punished for having such a partner as Russia,” said Ramaphosa .
The politician called the document moving forward in Congress inappropriate. «For the most part, African countries pursue a policy of non-alignment, and we expressed our opinion that it would be unfair for the United States to punish African countries simply for ties with Russia,» the president added. He did not specify whether he asked Biden to veto the document, which, if adopted in the Capitol, will go to him for signature. Ramaphosa also called for an early settlement of the conflict in Ukraine through «dialogue and negotiations.»
