MOSCOW, Sep 17 A study by Italian scientists has shown that the consumption of dairy products reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, reports the Express. This type of diabetes is the most common. It occurs when the pancreas cannot produce enough insulin. Or it doesn't work properly. Experts recommend eating plant-based foods — whole grains, vegetables, fruits, legumes, olive oil. It is also advised to limit the consumption of most animal products. Not all animal protein sources are created equal. Dr. Annalize Giosu from the University of Naples, along with colleagues, conducted the study. It turned out that a glass of milk a day reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 10%, fermented baked milk, kefir and cottage cheese (200 g/day) — by 5%, natural yogurt (one jar) — by 6%, and low-fat dairy products — by 3%.
«Dairy products are rich in nutrients, vitamins and other biologically active compounds. They have a beneficial effect on glucose metabolism — the processing of sugar in the body. This is what probiotics do,” Giosu said.
The doctor emphasizes that these products are useful only in small quantities. You should always control your diet.
