The interlocutor of the agency noted that the decision was made in connection with the US and UK sanctions against Russia. In turn, the customer support service of Deniz Bank clarified that Mir cards are not accepted by their ATMs, and transactions are not carried out. An early publication of the Financial Times said, citing Western officials, that the US is trying to put pressure on Turkish banks that support work with the Russian Mir payment system. As noted in the publication, Washington fears that this cooperation will allow Moscow to «avoid Western sanctions.»
