File photoMOSCOW, Sep 19The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, spoke on the Teleram channel about a new «trend» with stationery in the UK. She recalled the story of King Charles III, who recently did not hold back his emotions because of the pen. The monarch, while making entries in the Hillsborough Castle visitor's book, first mistook the date and then smeared his hand with ink. The king lost his temper and declared to the camera that he “hates and cannot stand this damned thing.” Zakharova noted that the problem with writing materials from representatives of the UK was repeated the other day. According to her, Russian diplomats visited the British Embassy in Laos to express their condolences on the death of Elizabeth II.
“English rudeness is already legendary, so I won’t go into the details of the depressing state of affairs with etiquette at their embassy in Vientiane. There are more interesting things. An hour after the visit by Russian colleagues to the British diplomatic mission, her employee contacted our embassy and reported the loss of a pen from the book of condolences,” said the representative of the Foreign Ministry.
According to Zakharova, it is difficult to say what the British diplomatic mission employee was trying to achieve: the office of the Russian foreign mission provided her with humanitarian assistance, or simply to complain about the problem, and at the same time about the British protocol officers. The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that domestic diplomats, «assuming something bad,» came with their stationery. Based on this, Zakharova advised those wishing to visit British official bodies to take a pen with them, because then it would not be lost and “the quality of the writing would not suffer.”
