Archival photoUN, Sep 21 The leader of the Belarusian opposition, ex-presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who left for Lithuania, arrived at the UN headquarters, where the high-level week of the General Assembly started on Tuesday, RIA Novosti correspondent reports. Tikhanovskaya entered the main building of the World Organization at about 18.00 local time (1.00 Wednesday Moscow time) accompanied by several persons. At the same time, it is not clear whether she arrived to participate in the UN General Assembly events in her personal capacity or as part of one of the European delegations. The high-level week of the UN General Assembly session takes place on September 20-26. Belarus is represented at the events by Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei. Information about the upcoming possible arrival of Tikhanovskaya was previously provided to RIA Novosti by an informed source in the UN. The interlocutor did not rule out that if the information is confirmed, it could «lead to thoughts» that the Belarusian opposition is financed by the West and used as a lever to loosen the situation in Belarus.
