MOSCOW, Sep 25 Extraordinary Congress of the International Boxing Association (IBA), which takes place in Yerevan, voted against re-election of the organization's president, according to the organization's official website.
The acting president of the IBA is Russian Umar Kremlev, who was re-elected for a new term at the organization's congress on May 14 in Istanbul. Then he remained the only candidate after his rival Boris van der First was removed from the election. The Dutchman challenged this decision in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and won the case. The candidates for the presidency in the new elections should be Kremlev and van der First.
The Congress voted confidence in the Kremlin. 106 representatives of national federations voted against the elections, 36 voted in favor, and another four representatives abstained from voting. Thus, Kremlev will remain in his post for another four years.
In February 2017, Kremlev took over as Secretary General of the Russian Boxing Federation, and in November 2018 he joined the IBA executive committee. In December 2020, he was elected President of the IBA for the first time.
