MOSCOW, Oct 5 American Hans Niemann was suspected of cheating in more than The 100 games played online comes from an investigation by chess portal Chess.com. A 72-page report published by Chess.com says that Niemann «probably received illegal assistance» in more than 100 online games back in 2020, including at competitions in which there were prize money. The report is based on cheat detection tools, including a comparison of the player's moves with moves recommended by powerful supercomputers. The Chess.com investigation did not draw any conclusions about Niemann's chess games, but noted six tournaments where he performed well. The report also states that the chess player's play «deserves further investigation based on these data.» At the moment, the American is blocked on Chess.com, the most popular chess site in the world, for an indefinite period. Previously, the reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen accused Niemann of cheating. In September, the Norwegian withdrew from the final stage of the Grand Chess Tour in St. Louis, USA, after losing to Niemann. According to the Norwegian edition of VG, he made such a decision, as he suspects his rival of fraud. Carlsen faced Niemann again on September 19 at the online Champions Chess Tour and decided to resign after two moves of the game. The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has said it will investigate Carlsen's allegations of foul play by Niemann, as well as the American's allegations of Internet fraud.
